Travel Books and photos
Don Pitcher is an Alaska-based photographer and travel writer with a dozen books in print. He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), and his photos have appeared in many magazines, books, websites, advertisements, and other publications.
Photographic Books
Don has photographed three books for Compass American Guides (Fodors): Alaska's Inside Passage, Alaska, and Wyoming. In addition, his photos are on the covers of many other titles.
Travel Guidebooks
Don Pitcher's travel guidebooks are typically updated every three years. The 6th edition of Moon Wyoming came out in 2006, followed by the 8th edition of Moon Alaska in 2007. The 3rd edition of Moon San Juan Islands was released in 2008. The 4th edition of Moon Yellowstone & Grand Teton and a new Moon Jackson Hole became available in 2009. Small Moon guides to Jackson Hole, Southeast Alaska, and Anchorage, Alaska will also be coming out in 2009.
Don served as editor for the 4th edition of Best Places Alaska, which came out in 2007, and contributes to DK Eyewitness Travel Alaska and DK Eyewitness Travel USA, along with Triporati.com and other websites. Regrettably, Moon Wyoming will no longer be updated after the current edition.

Technical Information
Don Pitcher works with Canon professional cameras and lenses (from 14 mm to 500 mm), and shoots entirely in digital RAW using a Canon ID Mark II and a backup Canon 10D. On trips, he transfers images to a Mac PowerBook G4, backing up files on an external hard drive or DVDs.
In the office, these images are processed on a dual 1.8 G5 Mac (6 GB of Ram and two 500 GB internal drives), with backup via Time Machine to external hard drives up to 1 terabite. Images are processed using Photoshop CS4, with Apple Aperture 2 for photo management and Spyder2Pro/PrintFix for color calibration. Other software favorites include Photomatrix Pro, Nik Viveza, Nik ColorEfex, Apple Keynote, A Better Finder Rename 7, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, NeatImage, Photojunction, and Album Showcase. His archival prints are made on an Epson 3800.
